Couple Treatment

A study concerning couple treatment is being conducted at the Clinic. Married couples wishing to participate complete a brief, 19-question survey before and after each therapy session. As a gift of appreciation, participating couples receive $45 or six free therapy sessions.

Physical Health and Marriage

The relationship between physical health and marriage will be the focus of a study in which couples can receive up to $200 for participation.  Couples would complete the following activities twice (once before counseling and 12 weeks later):  1) fill out questionnaires about health and marriage (this would take about one hour); 2) wear a blood pressure monitor for 24 hours, and 3) provide a blood sample.

Children in Family Therapy

This is a study investigating the participation of children in family therapy. The study involves video-taping one therapy session in which at least one parent and a child (between the ages of 4 and 12) are present. The therapist will conduct therapy as s/he normally would, without being asked to use any special techniques. Afterward, the child will be interviewed for 45 minutes while the parents complete two questionnaires. Families will receive a $25 gift card to Wal-Mart for their participation.

Autism Spectrum Disorder Study

The Development and Neurophysiology Laboratory, directed by Dr. Mikle South, is recruiting children and adolescents diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Condition including autism, Asperger Syndrome, or Pervasive Developmental Disorder.
Eligibility includes those 8 years and older, with fluent speech. The research aims to understand how anxiety and motivation are related to learning in autism. The project includes a brief diagnostic and cognitive assessment followed by one hour of experimental tests given by computer, during which we monitor heart rate and sweat glands using painless, disposable sensors.  We reimburse participants at the rate of $10 per hour.  Those who are interested should contact Dr. South at  south@byu.edu or by phone,(801) 422-7759.

OCD and Cognitive Control

The laboratory of Michael Larson in the BYU Department of Psychology is conducting a study to understand the effects of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) on brain function and thinking skills.  We are seeking either healthy comparison participants or individuals who have been diagnosed with OCD to perform computerized testing while brain EEG activity is measured.  The research will consist of two sessions that last no longer than 2 hours each.  You will complete several questionnaires, do some tests of thinking skills, and perform computerized tasks while sensors measure your brain activity.  You will receive up to $50 financial compensation for your participation.  Please contact Michael Larson at 801-422-6125 or by email at michael_larson@byu.edu for additional information.
